Preserving history? I think not.

I live in Fort Myers, FL.
It's located in Lee County.
The county is named
after Robert E. Lee.
In Fort Myers near the county seat there's a statue of Robert E Lee.

During the Civil War there was actually a Confederate base here. Was the bust installed after the Civil War to commemorate Robert E Lee?

No. It was installed in 1966. If you know your history, you will notate that this is one year after the Selma marches and the infamous Watts Riots.

These statues have nothing to do with commemorating the Civil War and everything to do with oppression and opposition to the Civil Rights Movement.
