Homelessness Part 5

Image
I am once again at the Triage Low Demand Shelter. The struggle to overcome such adversity is overwhelming. I am having health problems but cannot get medical attention. I cannot get Medicaid unless I am disabled. I seem to have a nerve disorder that causes me to shake and not always have control of my arms. I have had a few job offers but the issue is there is no way to get to their location by bus. I no longer have a bicycle. I am penniless. I have 21 days to figure something out or I will be at the Fort Myers Rescue Mission. This situation sucks, but I am very grateful to the Salvation Army for providing me food and shelter albeit temporarily.   I may qualify for another program but it is again only a 30 day program. This would be so much easier if only I was an addict or an alcoholic.... Then I could get into a halfway house and get back on my feet.   Posting will be rare as I only have public access to PC’s and must spend most of time applying for jobs I have no way to ge...

Homelessness

Image
The Buzzcocks  - I need It has been a long time since I last posted, Febuary in fact. Things are not going as I had hoped they would. I am currently homeless . It is not what you think. I have met many homeless Veterans. If you saw a pic of any of the people I have met you would never know they were homeless. They are the most positive people I have ever met. Many are suffering from alcohol and other addictions problems. I am not. I have been clean for five years. I need a job.   (Are you listening Mr. President???)  I wish someone (besides me) would write a article about all the formerly middle class Americans that are now homeless as a result of our dying economy. The "experts" are saying the economy is growing again because banks are lending. They have bad data. They are unaware of how many people are living off the grid.  For the first few days at the Triage low demand homeless shelter I slept on a cot. I had access to bad fo...

Florida: A right to work State

Image
Been a while since I posted. I may be losing my Internet access and my Apt. Unemployment is investigating me because they say they were not informed I was going to school full-time. (They were.) I am now going though an adjudication process that has been going on for a month. Meanwhile no payments. I was advised they would "Send an email to expedite the decision" , and I can expect to wait 2 weeks, and then maybe be told I still have to wait. There are no jobs. Retraining does not create jobs. Congress does not want to extend unemployment benefits. Our leader's obstruct and twiddle their thumbs while the Salvation Army overflows...

Decline in Labor Force Leads to Drop in Unemployment

Image
The June drop in hours suggests that hiring will slow further. I have little to say except thanks Republicans for blocking extension of unemployment benefits. I just spent a year training for a job that no longer exists. I've lost my job, now my car with no relief in sight. Paul Krugman was right : The stimulus was too small and not used correctly. We would rather pay for Endless War than take care of or help our own. What a sick country the U.S.A. has become. The Mega-rich and now a peasant class. Middle class America R.I.P.

Outsourcing

I often hear folks complain that the immigration issue is one of the reasons our economy is in the toilet. Cheap labor hired by unscrupulous companies keep wages low and jobs unavailable to legal citizens. Some xenophobes speak of building a wall around our borders, or using militia to guard them. But there is a more insidious technique used by companies that no wall or border patrol can stop. All it requires is routing an 800 number to Manila or India or Singapore. It is known as Outsourcing. Outsourcing has caused the loss of more American jobs than all jobs lost to illegal immigration. Companies that thought this would help their bottom line jumped on the Outsourcing bandwagon. For Example: The Sony corporation once based it's technical support call center right here in Ft. Myers, Florida. Now those jobs are in India and Malaysia. Sony just posted it's first loss ever. As more and more consumer companies outsource, consumers are able to buy less and less of their products. O...
